RICK'S BIG TRIP page 29

The museum of natural history. You know what those are like, right? Stuffed and/or dried out animal carcasses, different kind of rocks, funny smell.

I saw this more than once in Marseilles, so I know it just wasn't a fluke. What you see here is a man eating a french fry sandwich. That's right, a piece of long French bread, split and filled with french fries. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Mayonnaise, of course, is added (not because it's a sandwich, but because it's french fries -- this is Europe).
Right outside the hostel where I was staying, down one of those little alley-like streets, I came upon this little pile of discarded syringes. Judging from the crushed cola can here, I'd say these people were shooting Coke.
Another one of these godforsaken arches. Napoleon dropped these things all over France, so his troops would have something glorious to march through. This one celebrates, among other things, his (disastrous) conquest of Egypt.

Note the woman in African dress in the foreground. There are a lot of women wearing this style in Marseilles, some with babies wrapped around them by scarves. Africa's just across the sea, you know.
