RICK'S BIG TRIP page 30

See all those bodies flailing around and jumping on each other? That's a Contact Improvisation class. It's a good practice for those of us who have accepted incarnation into human form; it's what I studied in college; and it's the thing that brought me all the way to the southern reaches of Europe in the summer of 2001.

The group shot at the end of the week. Frey Faust is the class teacher; he's in the middle with the blue shirt. Frey was only American in the class besides me. He's been teaching in Europe for a long time. If you'd like to get a better look at our pretty faces, click on the photograph.

When class was over, I took a one-day trip to Montpellier. There I met another of my lovely internet acquaintances, Brigitte. Brigitte and her family are very cool people, and she knew just what an American tourist, such as Rick, needed to see: Old Stuff! This here is a very old Roman aqueduct. Nice piece of work, and in darn good condition. That old Roman civilization -- it still dwarfs us!
And Montpellier has a medieval center -- more really old stuff! This here, according to Brigitte, is the oldest medical college in France...I think it dates from the 13th century. Now, I did meet a French guy back home in Idyllwild who tells me it's only the second oldest medical college in France...so I'm not sure who to believe. But heck, it sure looks older than any college I ever went to!
Yes, even in beautiful old Montpellier, there is ugly graffiti all around. A shame. But here's one of the nicer pieces: a cow cleverly worked into the curves of the wall. Perhaps a little joke on Europe's big bugaboos these days, mad cow and hoof-and-mouth disease. Cute, though.
