RICK'S BIG TRIP page 19 Hey, I just came back
from a great week in Amsterdam! While I was in Utrecht, I got an e-mail from
a guy named Sander, saying he was inviting a sort of open-ended movement exploration
group to coalesce at Pauline de Groot’s studio, which just happens to be in
the red-light district of the world’s funnest city. On the first morning, I
arrived way too early. Sat under the awning of a local café with a cup of tea
and watched the drizzle. |

The
movement group was great, just what I needed to get back into bodily reality,
and back in touch with the human species. For five days we just explored
every group movement idea anyone came up with. The people were from all over:
Israel, Portugal, Germany, USA, Holland, Spain…(did I forget any?). You know,
that alternative movement sub-culture is my kind of people. |

We also
spent a lot of time talking, eating, and giving serious thought to one
another’s opinions, as you see here: Anneke, the girl from New York with the
Dutch name; Sander, the guy who brought us all together; and Ronen, a very
smooth mover from Israel. |

On
Thursday, we went out to the back side of the Rijks Museum – you know where I
looked at all that old art – and we danced on the street, to the amusement,
awe, and perplexity of passers-by. |

|
A fellow
performer. We happened upon this gentleman who does the statue-of-Rembrandt
thing. Those statue street performers are everywhere – in all the big cities.
I don’t know if it’s because of high demand (“we want more statue street
performers”), or because it’s an easy job – if you can stand to stand. That’s
his bike in the background: yes it’s got an extra wheel up in the air like a
sort of Siamese twin. |

|
And for
your viewing pleasure: that’s Ronen and Lucy doing a big acrobatic thingy
toward the end of our performance. Pretty cool, hunh? |
